News

The ever amazing, Allison Davis at the US State Department’s Cultural Heritage Center has sent through this interesting opportunity. I’d apply myself if I wasn’t just about to start a project. In a couple years time, I’m in! I can think of so many great projects that could be done from this vantage point. It might just be right for you!

Sabbatical Opportunity:  Senior Advisor, Cultural Heritage Center, U.S. Department of State.

Spend your sabbatical helping protect and preserve cultural heritage around the world. Put your expertise to work:

  • i.) negotiating international agreements with other governments to protect cultural property;
  • ii.) building the capacities of local partners to protect their heritage;
  • iii.) developing policies and practices with the FBI, Homeland Security, and the Smithsonian to curb cultural property looting and trafficking;
  • iv.) facilitating the repatriation of Native American cultural items and
  • v.) providing grants through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation to local organizations that want to save their heritage.

Return to your home institution with enhanced knowledge of cultural heritage foreign policy and practice that enriches your scholarship and teaching.  Together our efforts can show America’s respect for, and interest in, all cultures and faiths and increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
